Cotabato Athletic Association delivers fine performance in SRAA 2015

AMAS, Kidapawan City – Garnering a total of 387.70 points and bringing home a total of 180 medals, the Cotabato Schools Division won the 2nd Runner Up of the recently concluded 6-day SOCCKSARGEN Regional Athletic Association (SRAA) held at the General Santos City from Feb. 16-21, 2015.

Edmund A. Rosete, Jr., Education Program Supervisor and General Athletic Manager of Cotabato Schools Division athletes disclosed that the delegation from Cotabato garnered 55 gold (47 from elementary, 8 secondary), 72 silver (37 elementary, 35 secondary) and 73 bronze medals (38 elementary, 35 secondary).

The Cotabato elementary level was declared as champion in five major events – table tennis, taekwondo boys and girls, softball, sepak takraw, and volleyball girls and also landed as 1st runner up in baseball.

For the secondary level, Cotabato was declared champion in tennis girls’ category, 1st runner up in taekwondo girls and football and 2nd runner up in sepak takraw.

Omar A. Obas, Cotabato Schools Division Superintendent congratulated the Cotabato Athletic Association (CAA) for giving their best to the competition and making it to the top 3.

Close to 500 students from different schools in Cotabato joined this year’s SRAA.

Showing full support to the athletes, Governor Emmylou “Lala” J. Taliño-Mendoza released the amount of P1M from the Provincial Special Educational Fund Annual Budget of 2015 to support the CAA.

“We fully support our athletes as well as the coaches and support staff in their aspiration to make it to the top of one of the biggest sports events in the region”, said the governor.

The said amount helped much the delegation in their food, uniform, transportation and other needs in the 6-day sports competition.

The General Santos Athletic Association (GSAA) was declared as the Champion of SRAA 2015 with a total of 629.80 points, South Cotabato Athletic Association (SCAA) 1st runner up with 624.70 points, Sarangani Athletic Association (SAA) 3rd runner up with 228.50 points followed by Koronadal with 202 points, Kidapawan with 198, Sultan Kudarat with 180.2 and Tacurong City with 67 points.

This is the 4th straight win of General Santos as Champion of SRAA meet since 2012.

Around 6,000 athletes, coaches and trainers from South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, General Santos City and the charter cities of Tacurong, Kidapawan and Koronadal participated in SRAA 2015.

The games were held in different playing venues in General Santos City including Antonio Acharon Sports and Recreation Center for archery, athletics and swimming, Big Shot Nadine Badminton Courts for badminton, Oval Plaza for boxing, Dadiangas South CES Social Hall for chess, Veranza Mall for gymnastics, Gaisano Mall for table tennis, SM mall for taekwondo and many others.

Meanwhile, the Division Supervisors, District Supervisors, Proncipals and School Heads from Cotabato Schools Division also gave fine performances in the Communication Festival Regional Competition held at the SM Trade Hall, General Santos City on Feb. 17, 2015.

A total of nine divisions from SOCCKSARGEN participated in the contest.

The Cotabato Schools Division was declared the 2nd runner up and also awarded with the Eco-friendly delegation.

Cotabato won as the Champion in Story Telling (Cynthia Bustillo, Principal II of M’lang National High School) and Speech Choir, 1st runner up in Readers Theatre and 2nd runner up in Impromptu Speaking (Luz Pederio, Principal I of Kitub-Bao High School, Alamada).
