KORONADAL CITY. City Mayor Peter B. Miguel, M.D., FPSO-HNS led the turn-over of the Sitio Acub Resettlement Project to the Upper Acub Shelter Association (UASA) of B/San Isidro, January 10.

The resettlement project is a 1-hectare lot with 82 housing units, each with a 24 sq. m. floor area, plain smooth inside with ceiling board in and out, inside CR with L-type bowl and jalousie windows.

The project was implemented in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 12 providing PhP4.259M worth of construction materials and PhP159,000 cash for work, and with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 12 donating a total of 1,174 board feet of confiscated lumber.

In his speech, Mayor Miguel pledged to make the resettlement project a livable community. “We will make this not only a house but a home where every family lives in peace, love and unity,” Mayor PBM said. He added that necessary facilities and amenities such as basketball court, transportation and security systems, would be provided and installed to make it a model project. He further urged the beneficiaries to abide with the terms and conditions under the Usufruct Agreement.

On the other hand, DSWD 12 Regional Director Bai Zorahaya T. Taha assured the residents of their continuing commitment to help the community rebuild and sustain their lives. “We will establish a day care center and provide pangkabuhayan package for your livelihood,” she said.

Meanwhile, negotiations with SOCOTECO I and Koronadal Water District are underway for water and power connections in the area. The housing units will be awarded to the beneficiaries after the Usufruct Agreement is finalized.

The beneficiaries of the project are the 82 families who were displaced after a rain induced landslide hit the area in September 2010 that left five people dead and several properties damaged.

The simple ceremony was also graced by Hon. Mel Senen S. Sarmiento, 1st District Representative of Western Samar and guest speaker during the city’s 75th Foundation Anniversary and 15th Hinugyaw Festival, Regional Director Reynaldo M. Bungubung, CESE of the Department of Interior and Local Government-12, and RD Minda C. Morante of the Office of Civil Defense-12. /Wilyn Joy Nantes-Manlabao
