A team from the National Organizing Council for the 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) conducted an ocular visit in Iloilo City last week.

In a media release, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that he was informed through a letter from NOC Director General for Operations Marciano A. Paynor Jr. that the ASEAN 2017 NOC has chosen Iloilo City as one of the sites for ASEAN meetings.

“We encourage everyone to support Iloilo City’s preparations to host the 2017 ASEAN meetings. This good news manifests our growing reputation as ideal convention destination,” he said.

The city already experienced successful global hosting that attracted thousands of delegates and visitors of several meetings of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in 2015.

Mabilog said the ocular visits will help determine the possible engagement sites and specific arrangements for the ASEAN meetings such as airport facilities, hotel accommodation, conference venues and tourism destinations.

The meetings that will be convened by various lead government agencies will be attended by high-level delegates such as ministers and senior officials.

ASEAN is composed of 10 member-countries including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
